What’s open/closed on New Year’s Day 2025 in Windsor-Essex
As residents and businesses welcome a new year, here’s a look at what’s open and closed in Windsor-Essex on Jan.1, 2025.

City of Windsor
The City of Windsor administrative offices will be closed on New Year’s Day.
311 Customer Contact Centre
The 311 Customer Contact Centre will be closed on New Year’s Day. Regular business hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the exception of the listed holidays.

211 Windsor-Essex
The 211 service will remain available at all hours of the day, seven days a week.
Garbage and recycling collection
No residential collection services will run on New Year’s Day. They will be delayed one day after the holidays. Night commercial and weekly recycling collection will not be delayed.
According to the City of Windsor, front end loader collection will be rescheduled from Wednesday to Tuesday or Thursday this week.
Specific dates can be found on the collection schedule.
If you are looking to get rid of your Christmas tree or yard waste, pickup will occur the week of Jan. 13 in A zones. B zones will be collected the week of Jan. 20.
Public drop-off and household chemical waste depots
Depots at the northeast corner of Central Avenue and North Service Road East are closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Depots are regularly closed on Sundays.
Parks and recreation
The winter recreation programming session for 2025 is set to start on Jan. 12.
On Dec. 31, all community rinks closeed at 2 p.m. They will reopen on Jan 2.
The Centralized Registration and Booking Centre will be closed on Jan. 1 and Jan. 4.
Customer Care Centres will still run on holiday hours.
Holiday Camp
Windsor is offering a Holiday Camp at four different locations on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3 for kids aged four to 13.
The locations are:
• Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex at 2555 Pulford Street
• Forest Glade Community Centre at 3215 Forest Glade Drive
• Gino and Liz Marcus Community Complex at 1168 Drouillard Road
• Optimist Community Centre at 1075 Ypres Avenue

WFCU Centre Pool
The WFCU Centre will be open for regular hours, pool reservations and scheduled rentals. However it will be closed on Jan. 1.
Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre
The centre will be open with adjusted hours from Dec. 21 to Jan. 5. The swim schedule can be found online. It will be closed on Jan. 1.
Adventure Bay Family Water Park
The water park will operate on holiday hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Dec. 21 until Jan. 5. It will be closed on Jan. 1.
Windsor Public Library
Libraries will be closed on New Year’s Day.
Bright Lights Windsor
Bright Lights Windsor is open from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. every night until Jan. 7. Admission is free.
Homelessness and Housing Help Hub
Regular hours will be in place from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. every day at 400 Wyandotte Street East. More information is available at 519-253-3806.
Parking enforcement
Municipal ticket payment offices will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Ticket payments can always be made online on the City of Windsor’s website.
Museum Windsor (Chimczuk Museum and François Baby House)
Chimczuk Museum will be closed on New Year’s Day, as well as its regular closures on Mondays.
François Baby House will be closed from Dec. 24 to Dec. 26 and Jan. 1, as well as Mondays.
Transit Windsor
Transit users are asked to check for the holiday bus services on the schedule online.
No tunnel bus service will run on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Customer support and sales will take place at Transit Windsor for the following hours:
• Monday to Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Saturdays and Sundays from 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Jan. 1 the office will be closed
