Mardi Gras in New Orleans has its traditions, but in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent the famous Paczki Day is celebrated.
Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday is typically the last occasion before the start of lent to eat, drink and be merry.
Joe Fanelli, owner of Maple City Bakery in Chatham, says this is the shop's busiest single day of the year. Staff members work around the clock to keep up with the delicious orders.
“I think the first year we did about 30 dozen and sold out by six in the morning and we just kept going from there,” says Fanelli. “This year the total output will be about four thousand dozen."
The polish doughnuts come in many different flavours - apple, strawberry, cherry, chocolate, custard and more.
At Maple City, it's $12 for a dozen.
