A second NDP Member of Parliament from Windsor-Essex is throwing their support behind Jagmeet Singh in his bid to be the next leader of the federal New Democrats.

Essex MP Tracey Ramsey says Singh can be a leader “who is positive and inspires others to expect better from our elected representatives” in a news release.

Ramsey also calls Singh “inclusive” who can help build the party from the ground up, and can “fight for social, economic and environmental justice.”

“As International Trade Critic, I know that we need a strong progressive voice going into NAFTA renegotiations.  Canadians are worried about their jobs and Jagmeet has consistently stood in solidarity with our working class people,” adds Ramsey.

“I’m so grateful to have Tracey Ramsey’s support,” says Singh, Ontario’s NDP Deputy Leader. “She is a lifelong champion of workers and in Parliament has been a strong advocate for economic justice for all Canadians.”

Ramsey joins Windsor West MP Brian Masse in supporting Singh’s leadership bid.

Also running to replace Tom Mulcair as leader of the federal NDP leadership are Ontario MP Charlie Angus, Manitoba MP Niki Ashton and Quebec MP Guy Caron.

The next few weeks of the race will be key for all candidates as they seek to sign up as many members as possible ahead of an Aug. 17 registration cutoff.
