A new pilot project will enable Windsor residents to text a question to access city service information or to report concerns.

Windsor is the first municipal call centre in Canada to use the short code 311.

Users can text city-related questions rather than dialing the call centre.

“We’re excited to see how the community will respond to this convenient new option,” said Alena Sleziak, acting manager of the 311/211 call centre, in a news release. “With an ever-increasing reliance on mobile phones, we anticipate this pilot service will be very popular among our residents.”

Hours of operation for the texting service are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., holidays excluded. Standard data rates apply to all users.

The city has partnered with Impact Mobile for the initiative.

Residents can also continue to contact 311 by phone, email or online.
