Windsor Fire and Rescue Services members and volunteers have completed its first round of the "Wake up! Get a Working Smoke Alarm" educational campaign.

Volunteers and firefighters have visited 5,000 homes to make sure smoke alarms are properly installed and working.

They found two-thirds of those residences required an alarm 'adjustment'.

Just two years ago, it's estimated 43 per cent of homes in Windsor did not have working smoke alarms. Above the provincial average of 20 per cent.

The blitz continues in September.
