Windsor Fire officials are reminding residents that the time change means it's also time to change the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
Daylight savings ends Saturday, which means the clocks fall back an hour, and the time to change the clocks is also the perfect time to install new batteries.
Fire Chief Bruce Montone said in a statement, “Once a year, old batteries should be replaced with new batteries. When you change your clocks this weekend, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services wants everyone to take the time to install new batteries in all smoke alarms and CO alarms.”
It’s the law to have working smoke detectors on every level of the home and outside all sleeping areas, and for added protection, smoke alarms are also recommended inside all bedrooms.
Carbon monoxide detectors are also now required by law and should be in a central location outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home, or wherever required by law.
Tampering with, or removing the batteries from your smoke alarms are against the law. Failure to comply with the Fire Code smoke alarm requirements can result in a ticket for $235 or a fine of up to $50,000.
