The official start of summer is still three weeks away, but this weekend unofficially marks the beginning of summer festival season in Windsor.

There's no shortage of things to do this weekend, enough to fill your day from dawn until well-past dusk.

Beaverfest 2013 kicks off Friday night with Loverboy, Trooper, and Windsor band Greatest Hits Live. The headliners for Saturday are Tom Cochrane with Red Rider, Kim Mitchell, Platinum Blonde and Windsor band Drop Dead Famous.

Tickets start at $25.00 for the event at the Riverfront Festival Plaza. There will be an unlicensed area for ages 12+. Local restaurants will be showcased along with local merchandise vendors.

Country singer Dallas Smith starts Art in Park with a performance on Friday night. Advance tickets are $20.

About 275 vendors will be spread out throughout Willistead Manor Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $4 in advance or $5 at the gate. Kids 12 and under are free.

The Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market also opens this weekend. Venders will offer a variety of local produce and handcrafted items at Charles Clark Square 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Across the border, the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix also runs Friday through Sunday on the Belle Isle track.
