It seems the number of smokers in Windsor-Essex is on the decline.

The smoking rate has dropped from almost 25 per cent to less than 17 per cent over the past 10 years.

The Windsor/Essex County Health Unit says, that's great news, but more needs to be done.

"There's still a lot of work to be done, to continue building on that work," says Kristy McBeth, manager of chronic disease and injury prevention.

Much of the credit is being given to education in schools.
