The province has given the go ahead for renovations at three area schools.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Ontario government announced $80 million in funding for construction and renovations to 10 projects across the provinces, including one in Windsor and two in Chatham-Kent.

The province has approved the consolidation of two elementary schools – the result will see W.F. Herman Secondary School transition to a junior kindergarten to Grade 12 establishment in order to accommodate 1,395.

In 2012, the Greater Essex County District School Board approved a proposal to merge Percy P McCallum Public School with Herman. Gordon McGregor Public School would then close and shift students into the vacated McCallum building.

Four additional classrooms will be created for École Élémentaire Catholique Sainte-Marie. Renovations to Wallaceburg District Secondary School have been approved to support the consolidation of Grade 7 and Grade 8.

Elsewhere in the province, six new schools will be built by utilizing capital funding.
