The owner of a very ill dog is devastated, following a visit to a local dog park.

Robin Sheardown and his eight-year-old boxer, Jasmine, visited the Tecumseh Dog Park on Friday like many times before, but early the next morning Sheardown knew something was wrong. Jasmine suffered two strokes, prompting Sheardown to take her to a vet and the blood wasn’t good.

“It showed that she had been poisoned,” he says. “It attacked all of her major organs.”

Now Jasmine’s kidneys are failing. Not being able to afford both his own heart medication and Jasmine’s, Sheardown has opted to go without.

“If she could hold on and fight this, it’d be good.”

The Windsor Essex Humane Socity is now investigating, but say they haven’t received any other calls about dogs falling ill.

“There are illnesses that come on, that can be mistaken for poisoning,” says Melanie Coulter. “We take these seriously because if someone is poisoning animals, we want to deal with it.”
