OPP officer uses cruiser to block loose flatbed trailer from Highway 401 traffic

Chatham-Kent OPP say charges are pending following a crash involving a police cruiser on Highway 401.

On Saturday around 12 p.m., an OPP officer was eastbound on the 401 near Communication Rd. when he saw a flatbed trailer detach from a westbound pickup truck and veer toward the eastbound lanes.

The officer positioned the cruiser in the path of the trailer so that it would not hit eastbound traffic and it struck the cruiser instead.

There were no injuries.  The police vehicle sustained moderate damage.

The Ministry of Transportation attended the scene and have assumed the investigation.
