The final numbers are in from this year's Windsor Goodfellows paper drive.

Organizers say a record amount was raised - $296,699.

Goodfellows tried unsuccessfully for the past 15 years to break the $250,000 dollar mark.

This year, they shattered it, thanks to the generosity of the community.

The money comes at a great time, organizers say they had to borrow $52,000 from their reserves to keep a shoe and boot program for needy children afloat.

The money will support the 6,000 boxes of food and treats that Goodfellows distribute to those that need it during the Christmas season, along with a food bank and school breakfast program at nine area schools.

Dec. 13 is the deadline to apply for a Christmas box. A recent income statement is required.
