Municipalities across the region now have more money in their coffers.
That's because the federal government has paid out the first installment of the federal Gas Tax Fund.
Windsor received $6.4-million last week, half of the $12.8-million the City will receive from the Trudeau government this year.
Chatham-Kent will receive $6.3-million this year.
The County of Essex will get an annual allotment of $5.4-million.
The money will help municipalities pay for different capital projects such as road improvements, bridges, public transit, drinking water, wastewater infrastructure and recreational facilities.
The funding is in addition to the provincial gas tax fund that is shared by Ontario municipalities.
The federal Gas Tax Fund allocations for Ontario communities in 2017-18 are:
- Amherstburg - $655,371
- Town of Essex - $595,902
- Kingsville - $649,473
- LaSalle - $870, 838
- Lakeshore - $1,050,308
- Leamington - $863,542
- Tecumseh - $717,819
