As hot temperatures continue throughout the region this week, officials at the Detroit Zoo say they are allowing the animals to indulge in a little “cold play.”

The zoo provides the animals with ways to engage in species-appropriate behaviors to help them stay cool.

Some of the initiatives include frozen bananas for chimpanzees, a gentle shower for anteaters, frozen treats for wolverines, polar bears and snow monkeys, frozen fish for grizzly bears, and a mud wallow for warthogs.
