Windsor will get its share of $1.7 million dollars back from the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation based on a per capita calculation.

Development corp. officials say roughly $900,000 will be returned to the city and $800,000 to the county.

"I think this is a really good news story," says Windsor mayor Drew Dilkens about the WEEDC fund.

The money comes as a result of of the WEEDC securing government grants, as well as improving operational efficiencies, so-called leveraged partnerships and staffing changes.

It had been part of a reserved development fund set aside only for when 'significant opportunities' arise.

About 900 jobs were created in 2014, officials say the 2015 numbers are not available yet.

On Monday, Dilkens said he was “flabbergasted” regarding the development corporation’s reserve fund. WEEDC projects to have $2.3 million in restricted development fund this month.
