Via Rail has a contingency plan in the event of a work stoppage.
Bargaining continues between the CAW and Via to prevent a possible strike. While the union hasn't threatened job action, workers will be in a legal strike position early Friday morning.
Should that happen, Via Rail will offer basic service using management for daily morning and end of day departures in the Windsor-Quebec City corridor.
Despite the announcement, Via Rail executives are confident a deal will be reached without service disruption.
