It’s the unofficial kickoff to summer and that means there’s plenty to do in Windsor-Essex this weekend.
Tim Allen is bringing his stand-up routine to the Caesars Windsor Friday night. The Michigan native honed his talents as a stand-up comic throughout the '80s, and became wildly popular with the TV series Home Improvement. Allen is also known for his roles in "Toy Story" and "The Santa Clause” and he currently stars in the sitcom, "Last Man Standing. There are still a few tickets left for the show.
If you didn't grab tickets for the other comedian at Caesars Windsor this weekend, you might be out of luck. Jeff Dunham is performing Saturday night, but the show is listed as sold out. There are however, a few single seats remaining.He is returning to the stage at Caesars as part of his Perfectly Unbalanced tour. The ventriloquist does have another Windsor show booked for Aug. 5.
A Fort McMurray rock band is performing in Windsor on Saturday night, despite losing some of their equipment in the wildfires in their hometown. Sentimental Gentlemen will be at the downtown establishment Villains Beastro at 256 Pelissier. The band decided to continue on with their cross-Canada tour and help raise money for the community. The Windsor show also features Sarnia punk rock band Barrel Burner. The event starts at 9 p.m.
Aladdin and the Arabian Nights
Looking for a fresh adaptation of the Arabian nights? Written exclusively for the Riverfront Theatre Company, students ages six to 17 are putting on a musical version of "Aladdin and the Arabian Nights". Organizers say it will be a bit different than the Disney version. It features 17 musical numbers full of song and dance. Perfromances run this weekend and next weekend at the Olde Walkervlle Theatre.
Another local production this weekend is "Fearless Frieda and the Giant" at the Kordazone Theatre. It’s an original musical with a live band featuring a genie, a dragon, a princess, a frog, and a giant. The first show was last night, with another show tonight and two more on May 26 and May 27 at 7 p.m.
Mayor's Walk and Windsor's 124th Birthday Celebration
Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens is hosting the 9th Annual Mayor's Walk, followed by the City's 124th Birthday Celebration on Monday. Free to the community. The walk begins at 10:30 a.m. departing from Assumption Park, walking east along the riverfront to Festival Plaza (located near Sunset St and Riverside Drive). The Community Celebration will begin in Festival Plaza from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Live entertainment featuring Bigg Wiggle presented by AM 800 CKLW and Caesars Windsor.
