Target’s Windsor store has removed expired baby formula and other“best before” items after a CTV Windsor investigation and story on Wednesday.
CTV Windsor found infant formula showing an expiry date of Nov. 28, 2014 – nearly three months old. Other formula expired on Jan. 30 and even more formula, expired recently on Feb. 19.
Other items that were past the“best before“ date included bacon, cream cheese, popcorn and cat food.
Those products had been removed from the shelves by Thursday at the Devonshire Mall location.
According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, best before dates “are not indicators of food safety,” but rather refer to freshness and potential shelf life.
The CFIA says food or liquid items that are expired should not be eaten and should be discarded.
Target Canada is still in the liquidation process, with sales ranging from 20 to 40 per cent off. Since the American retailer announced it would be closing all Canadian locations, the shelves have gradually been thinning out.
CTV Windsor has placed more calls and emails to Target's head office and has not received a response.
