A woman was taken to hospital after shots were fired at a home in Tecumseh early Wednesday morning.
Essex County OPP were called to the 1700 block of Manning Road around 12:45 a.m. for a reported home invasion.
Witness Laddi Kooner says the were all dressed in black and wearing ski masks and were yelling 'Where's the money?'"
The family - including both adults and children - was just winding down a barbecue when they say the suspects approached the home with guns.
Kooner says he quickly grabbed two kitchen knives and "was pretty much going to go at the guy," when shots were fired.
One of the bullets hit Kooner's 31-year-old sister, who was inside the home, in the abdomen. She was rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Kooner says there were seven suspects altogether, and police say the search for the suspects and the weapon continues.
OPP Sgt. Rick Tonial says "We have not found the weapon at this point, but we advise the public at any time to contact police, identify where it is and don't touch it and contact us right away."
Manning Road was closed for about four hours as the OPP Crime Unit assisted by several Emergency Response Teams, the Canine Unit and the OPP Forensic Investigation Unit searched the area but no suspects were located.
