Five more orders have been added by the Ministry of Labour after a worker was injured on the Herb Gray Parkway and taken to hospital Tuesday.

The additional orders are not in relation to five orders already issued, after a construction worker was killed in a separate industrial accident the same day on the parkway.

Giuseppe Serra, 40, of Windsor died after becoming trapped between two objects only an hour after the first incident.

The Ministry of Labour says following an inspection on Wednesday, orders on top of the five already made, have been added.

For the construction, Parkway Infrastructure Constructors, the ministry orders are:

  • "Requiring the constructor to ensure that every gear, pulley, belt, chain, shaft, flywheel, saw and other mechanically-operated parts of a machine to which a worker has access shall be guarded or fenced."
  • "A stop work order related to specified concrete wire cutting saws used by Graff Penhall Co. and Northern Concrete is in effect until compliance is achieved to the above order."

For the employer, Graff Penhall Co., the ministry says:

  • "The employer shall ensure that all vehicles, machines, tools and equipment are used in accordance with any operating manuals issued by the manufacturers."
  • "A stop work order related to specified concrete wire cutting saws is in effect until the above order is complied with."
  • "The employer shall provide information, instruction and supervision to a worker to protect the health and safety of the worker."

The ministry says their investigation continues.

Serra's visitation will take place at Families First Funeral Home during the weekend and his funeral is set for Monday.

Serra got married in December and many of his family members, including his wife, will be flying in from Italy for the funeral.
