The days of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic church in Windsor may be numbered.
In an open letter to parishioners, London Bishop Ronald Fabbro says a massive donation of $10 million for repairs “has not materialized.”
Fabbro adds that without the cash, "insufficient funds to carry out the extensive restoration required."
The church shut down last November.
Fabbro says the Diocese underwent a due diligence process after the donation was brought forward by an unknown donor in September.
But after the process, he says the diocese “could not proceed further without the due diligence being satisfied.”
Also in the letter, Fabbro expressed his anguish throughout the process.
"Every attempt to raise funds to repair and restore Assumption church has begun with promise, only to fail. This has been personally painful for me, and for all those involved. I believe that we have all done as much as can be asked of us and it is time for us to move forward."
According to Fabbro, the building will be preserved in its present condition to the extent possible.
