A truck driver has been sentenced after a fatal Highway 401 crash that killed a Windsor man and his niece.
Leszek Urbaniak, 57, from London, must pay a $2,000 fine and will not be allowed to drive a commercial vehicle for two years.
Urbaniak is also prohibited from driving a personal vehicle for one year.
"Driving is a privilege, not a right,” Justice Gerri Wong told the court. “The consequences of your careless driving had the most severe consequences."
Marc Lafontaine, 35, and Alyssa Smulders, 13, were killed in the 2014 crash on the 401 near Chatham.
The truck driver left the road, crossed the centre median, and struck the vehicle being driven by Lafontaine, according to police.
Almost 20 family members of the victims were in Chatham court on Thursday for the sentencing.
