The Town of LaSalle has decided not to submit a proposal to take over policing in Amherstburg.

Mayor Ken Antaya tells CTV Windsor the town can't compete with the OPP or Windsor Police.

LaSalle had originally requested to be allowed to submit a bid for communications for Amherstburg, but Antaya says the town's bid couldn't compete on pricing.

The mayor and council agree it would be much the same situation with policing, and submitting a proposal would just be a waste of resources.

Antaya adds the move may have had an impact on the town's police service.

"It may have watered down our own service," says Antaya. "It may not have generated enough revenue to justify maybe the reduction of service in our community."
