It’s the first day of a coroner’s inquest into the death of a Windsor construction worker.
Takis Escoto, 34, was hit in the head by a front-end loader at a construction site on McKay Avenue. He died on June 1, 2011, at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital from his injuries.
Inquest coroner Curtis Fedoruk told the jury of four men and one woman, "we are not here to lay blame or point fingers."
An Enwin worker on scene that day was the first to perform CPR. He said he heard someone scream “Jesus, I hit him."
He says Escoto had no pulse and wasn't breathing.
Escoto had worked for Coco Paving for 13 years. At the time of the accident, he was part of a crew installing new sewer and watermain lines on McKay.
An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act. It will examine the events surrounding Escoto's death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest, being held at the Superior Court of Justice, is expected to last four days and to hear from about seven witnesses.
