Another partnership between the City of Windsor and the City of Guro, South Korea.

A three-year, memorandum of understanding was signed Thursday by Guro Deputy Mayor Soo Dong Han and the Windsor Essex Economic Development Corporation.

CEO Stephen MacKenzie says the relationship has been four years in the making.

He tells CTV Windsor the goal of the signing is to promote partnerships between businesses in both regions and encourage and support trade and investment.

MacKenzie notes there are a number of Windsor Essex companies who are already producing hardware for I-T and software businesses in South Korea.

Soo Dong Han says the reason they signed the MOU is because of Windsor’s proximity to the United States, and because the people locally are sincere.

His goal is to see Korean companies locate in Windsor, and vice versa.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens issued a statement, stating the City “has an outstanding reputation for welcoming the world to the city. This is a clear example of how our cultural diversity opens up opportunities for education and business."

An agreement was also signed earlier this week between Guro and the local catholic school board to allow Korean students to study in Windsor Essex.

Mackenzie hopes to expand that educational agreement to include sending teachers and students to South Korea.
