It was a hero's sendoff for a special boy.

About 160 people gahtered in Lakeshore to pay respects to four-year-old Mason Macri, the Belle River boy who died Monday after a year-long battle with cancer.

The funeral for the little boy was held at Heritage Park Alliance Church Saturday morning.

Many of the people who came out had never met Mason before, but his story touched their hearts.

Some were dressed in superhero costumes as was hoped by community members who organized the sendoff for Mason by getting word out on social media. He was known for fighting cancer with superhero strength and bravery.

"Going through the treatment is just incredibly hard on the family, hard on the child and to go through all that and have all that time, treatment and fight, to lose them in the end is heart breaking," said Jasmine Jasey, who also had a child with cancer.

On June 21, the Canadian Armed Forces Snowbirds did a fly-past over Mason’s house.
