The end has come for the annual conference of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, held in Windsor.

Tecumseh mayor and outgoing AMO president Gary McNamara has declared the three-day conference a success.

McNamara says nearly 2,000 politicians and staff from hundreds of Ontario municipalities attended, much higher than the attendance when Windsor last hosted the AMO conference in 2010.

About 500 delegation meetings were held with provincial and federal politicians.

McNamara feels they discussed many important issues – from climate change to policing to taxes and marijuana legislation.

But he also feels Monday’s announcement about community infrastructure funding will certainly help Windsor Essex.

McNamara says “a lot of those infrastructure dollars are going to flow in this region.”

The AMO conference itself is expected to have generated close to $8 million in revenue for the Windsor Essex economy.

McNamara ended his two-year term as AMO president on Wednesday. He has been replaced as president by Innisfil Deputy Mayor Lynn Dollin.

Dollin feels climate change will continue to be a hot topic during the 2017 AMO conference, scheduled to be held in Ottawa.
