Advance voting for the 2014 municipal election officially began Saturday.

More than 1500 eligible voters stopped by Devonshire Mall during the course of the day.

"We were really shocked. We couldn't believe the number of people," says Chuck Scarpelli, Manager of Records and Elections.

"We opened this morning at 9 o'clock and there were 80 people waiting in line," he adds.

Many voters say they were impressed.

"Very fast, very easy, faster then the place in my own neighbourhood," says voter Susanne Pelchat.

Voters will select the name of one mayor, one city council member for their ward, and school board trustees to represent the community for the next four years.

Ballots will be put into a secrecy sleeve.

Then they will give to ballot to a vote tabulating officer.

The ballot vote will be scanned, stored and the ballot itself will be dropped into a ballot box.

Pelchat says regardless of who you support, she hopes everyone will come out and vote whether it's at advance polling or on October 27th.

"Get off your hind quarters, or else you don't have an excuse to complain," Pelchat says.
