A federal government bill, supporters say will create more gaming jobs at betting operations like Caesars Windsor, is receiving support from the National Chamber of Commerce.

President of the Windsor-Essex Chamber, Matt Marchand, says other local chambers agreed to his resolution calling on the Senate to pass Bill C-290.

Single sports betting would become legal in Canada if the legislation is passed.

Marchand was in Kelowna for the Annual General Meeting.

He hopes the unified show of support will sway the Canadian senate. “We are elated that Chambers across the country are in support of the Senate passing Bill C-290.”

The matter has been before Senators since receiving all-party support in the commons about a year-and half ago.

Opponents of the bill, like some professional sports leagues worry single sports betting will lead to match fixing.
