A few drops of rain didn’t deter crowds which lined the Detroit River Monday night.

They were rewarded with a dazzling display of bright lights, vivid colours and some loud bangs.

Some downtown business owners say it’s the busiest time of the year.

CEO of Tourism Windsor-Essex, Gordon Orr, says the event brings people stateside to Windsor, "A lot of our friends in Detroit come to our side because the million dollar view the back drop...is the Ren Cen."

Businesses were hoping to cash in by offering specials and incentives to draw in the crowds.

Shawn McKerness, City Grill executive chef, says they were offering a price break for parents.

“We’ve got a kids a eat free. If the parents come in and order an entree the kids eat free as well."

As hoped the fireworks went off as tradition at 10:06 p.m. to the delight of young and old alike.
