A stretch of Highway 401 is being considered for a makeover by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.

Pending a study, the MTO is proposing the reconstruction of a 50 kilometre stretch of Highway 401 from Victoria Road to 5 kilometres west of Kent Bridge Road and from 5 kilometres east of Bloomfield Road to Essex Road 42.

The multi-year undertaking would see pavement reconstruction, drainage improvements, bridge and culvert rehabilitation, and environmental protection and mitigation.

The MTO says one lane of traffic would remain open in both directions during the course of construction.
