Trick or treaters are being reminded to think of safety as they head out in their costumes Friday night.

Police are reminding parents to ensure kids are easily visibel with things like reflective tape placed on costumes and treat bags.

All children should walk, not run, door to door and cross at corners and in well-lit areas. Only go to homes that have the lights on.

Young children should be accompanied by an adult and older kids should go out in groups.

Treats should always be checked before they are eaten, look for  packaging that looks like it has been tampered with, and if it looks suspicious, throw it away.

Motorists are also reminded to drive slowly and scan the road for any children trying to cross the street.
