The Town of Lakeshore is a big step closer to seeing its multiuse recreational facility become a reality.

Conservative MP Jeff Watson announced Friday the federal government will be contributing $17.3 million toward the complex.

The funding will cover the cost of adding a pool to the rec centre.

The entire project is expected to cost about $57 million. The rest is being paid for by the province, the taxpayers of Lakeshore and through donations.

The facility will be built at the corner of Renaud Line and County Road 42. Members of town council are hoping to see shovels in the ground by the spring.

Mayor Tom Bain says residents expressed a strong desire to have a pool. Although it wasn't in the original design of the three pad arena complex, the pool will be built on the north side of the facility.
