The robotics team from Assumption Collegiate High School is heading to the world championship in St. Louis.

The rookie team competed in the Greater Toronto regional competition in Mississauga this past weekend. Assumption beat out 40 other teams in the Hershey Centre packed with 1,200 students.

The world championship at the Edward Jones Dome usually attracts 15,000 participants and spectators from around the world.

Windsor sent four teams to the Mississauga event, including teams from Maranatha Christian Academy, St. Anne's High School and Sandwich Secondary School.

"We are cultivating the next generation of engineers and innovators," says program manager of WEtech Alliance, Irek Kusmierczyk, who has helped grow the program in the region.
