After race cars were hindered by crumbling concrete last year, all eyes will be on the track at this year’s Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.
The raceway started to fall apart in pieces at various points during last year’s event.
Canadian James Hinchcliffe was the first racer to be forced out of the race, after he hit a piece of debris and slid into the barrier.
Racing was delayed for two hours, as crews tried to patch the holes.
This fall $1 million was spent in track repaving improvements. Organizers say the track can now handle anything the drivers throw at it.
