Downtown Detroit is already alive with the sights and sounds of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.
High performance race cars could be seen and heard zipping through the motor city Wednesday at the Grand Prix Street Fest.
Organizers held a parade with over 30 race car transporters. The pack drove by Campus Martius Park on Woodward Avenue and down Jefferson Avenue to Belle Isle.
Drivers signed autographs for fans and there were car displays and pit stop demonstrations.
Brothers Brian Fisselle and Burt Frisselle are racing together for the first time in Detroit in the Grand-Am Rolex Series.
“Actually we're going to be sharing the same car so I'll be qualifying and starting the race and Brian will be jumping in the car and finishing,” says Burt Fisselle. “So I just got to do my best and get the car in a great position and hopefully we'll put on an awesome show for the fans."
IZOD IndyCar Series drivers Helio Castroneves, Will Power, AJ Allmendinger, Simona De Silvestro, Graham Rahal and Tristan Vautier attended the event.
Also on hand were Grand-Am Rolex Series drivers Enzo Potolicchio and Stephane Sarrazin, Pirelli World Challenge Series drivers Andy Pilgrim and Dane Moxlow.
Officials with the City of Windsor, Transit Windsor and the Grand Prix are teaming up to get Canadians over to the races from May 31 to June 2.
Starting at $55 for a single-day or $105 for a two-day pass, the ticket price includes round-trip from Windsor to Belle Isle on the Tunnel bus, tolls and admission onto the island. It includes a seat in the Canadian Grandstand right near the start/finish line.
