Alcohol inside Adventure Bay is one step closer to reality, after a Windsor City Council meeting on Monday night.

But mayor Drew Dilkens reminds us that it is not a done deal.

“Council decided to issue the RFP to outsource the concession stand and figure out if there's a private operator in the community who would like to operate the concession stand,” says Dilkens. “One of the options that is available, is the provisions of alcohol inside of the water park facility itself.”

Windsor City Council has begun the process to contract out a full service concession operator, which would allow liquor to be sold at the International Aquatic and Training Centre.

City staff say this is to stay competitive in tourism, while increasing attendance and revenues.

Administration say no additional training or staff would be necessary, noting that several Adventure Bay employees are already smart serve trained.

The motion passed with a vote of 9-1.

Councillor Irek Kusmierczyk was the lone vote against it, saying more public consultation is needed, specifically with regular Adventure Bay patrons.

“I know that there are folks who will not bring their young ones, their 5, 6, 7 year olds to recreational facilities that serve alcohol,” says Kusmierczyk. “And so I think it has the potential to actually turn a lot of people off from using the water park."
