Environment Canada says Windsor’s extreme cold weather has set a new record temperature for Jan. 7.

The weather agency says overnight temperatures for Jan. 7 hit -25 C, shattering the previous coldest temperature of -20.6 C set in 1942. With the wind chill last night, Environment Canada says the temperature felt more like -39 C.

A wind chill warning remains in effect for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent as temperatures could hit as low as -30 C to -40 C. Environment Canada warns exposed skin may freeze in less than five minutes.
