While Windsor is not at the top of the list, many local parents are among those paying the most for childcare in Canada.

A new study by the Canadian Centre For Policy Alternatives lists Windsor as 16th for highest daycare fees out of major Canadian cities.

The study says in many cases, the childcare cost has risen faster than the cost of living, having jumped an average of more than twice the rate of inflation since 2014.

Chun Kung is a stay at home dad in Windsor.

“We were looking at getting some daycare but the reality of it is, it’s just too costly,” says Kung.

The study says the average monthly cost for full time child care has gone up by more than eight per cent across the country over the last three years.

Here are the numbers for Windsor:

-The median daycare cost for an infant is $977 a month.

- Toddler fees are about $846 a month.

- Preschool fees are around $749.

By comparison, Toronto ranks the most expensive at $1,649 a month.
