Some local federal politicians say Prime Minister Harper's decision to hit the reset button on parliament will allow the government to come back in the fall with a fresh agenda.

Conservative M.P. for Essex, Jeff Watson says his party has achieved many of its priorities. "Now we need to come back with a new vision, new throne speech, a new set of objectives and priorities to refocus the government. and lay out before Canadians the next agenda for the next two years."

However, opposition M.P.s, like Brian Masse who represents Windsor-West, say it's just delaying legislation that's close to being passed. “What it unfortunately does is it delays things from getting done in the House of Commons. we get more pomp, more ceremony and less action."

Less action on Bills like C-290, the Single Game Sports Betting Bill Masse is sponsoring, which is currently at the senate stage. "The Bill is very important, it will not only create hundreds of jobs here in Windsor. It also potentially create statistician jobs that we haven't even counted on before."

Still, political scientist Lydia Miljan says it's just a normal part of the political process. "It's not like he's avoiding any inquiry or investigation. His claim is that they've done everything they've set out to do. They want to tell the populous their additional plans, which doesn't seem completely unreasonable."

Miljan says people may remember back in 2008 when critics were up in arms after Harper prorogued parliament ahead of a non-confidence vote.

Lydia Miljan says of his three prorogations, this one is by far the least controversial.
