The City of Windsor is receiving up to $525,000 from the Ontario government to fund community projects focused on keeping kids healthy and active.
Windsor is among 45 communities selected to take part in The Healthy Kids Community Challenge, which promotes healthy eating, physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices for children.
“In partnership with the provincial government, our neighbours in the county and the many agencies that have come together, we’re going to make a positive difference for our young people,” says Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.
As part of a regional initiative, Windsor and Essex County will invest funds from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care in programs that support healthy habits among local children and their families.
“Being introduced to a healthy lifestyle at a young age, the children and youth of Essex County and Windsor will be more likely to carry that way of life into adulthood,” says Essex County Warden Tom Bain.
The Healthy Kids Community Challenge combines a community-based approach with centralized provincial supports to help communities develop and implement policies, programs and environmental supports that enable one common outcome - healthy kids.
