The Windsor-Detroit tunnel is expected to undergo some upgrades starting in May.

Tunnel president Neal Belitsky says the work will be done in two phases.

Belitsky says users will likely not notice the first phase as the work will be more behind the scenes - like electrical. That work will go from May to August.

However, Belitsky says the tunnel is expected to close from Sunday to Thursday from 9 p.m. until 5:30 the following morning. That'll allow for such things as the replacement of the ceiling and masonry work.

Belitsky says the second phase is schedule to run from August to December.

A request for proposal has been issued.
