A surprise development in the case against a Windsor acupuncturist.

79-year old Chak Cheung pleaded guilty in Windsor Superior Court on Tuesday, the day his trial by jury for assaulting a former patient was scheduled to start.

Cheung was charged with sexual assault, but pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of common assault.

In a statement of facts given to Justice Steven Rogin, Cheung admitted he penetrated the woman with his finger during a treatment session.

Cheung received a suspended sentence. He is on probation for two years. He is also banned from owning a weapon for five years and must take counselling.

But most importantly for the victim, Cheung can never practice Chinese medicine again.

The 54 year old victim in the case, who cannot be identified, spoke exclusively with CTV News.
