Windsor police say a conducted energy weapon was deployed Thursday in the apprehension of an attempted murder suspect.
According to investigators, officers arrived at 955 Reedmere Road Thursday morning and discovered an 85-year-old woman lying in a hall motionless. Police say they also witnessed 54-year-old Damian Hawley pacing inside the home with a hammer in his hand.
When officers kicked down the door, Hawley allegedly ran at them with the hammer. That’s when police deployed the CEW to apprehend the suspect.
The elderly victim, who neighbours say is Hawley’s mother, underwent surgery Thursday. She remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
Hawley is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
He remains in Windsor police custody.
