The expert panel looking at the structural integrity of Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway girders will get more time to ensure the beams comply with safety standards.
The panel, consisting mainly of engineers was expected to have a report completed by the end of the month.
However the province has granted a 30-day extension, to allow what is called destructive testing to take place.
The Transportation Minister doesn't believe the extension will significantly delay the parkway project.
Glen Murray says he'll eventually address how beams were installed before anyone raised the question of safety. “I will have more to say once the review has been completed and have reviewed the report. I will be quite fourth coming in my comments.”
As well Murray announced an additional bridge on North Talbot Road will be closed to traffic.
He maintained his confidence the panel’s review will ultimately show the project is safe.
