Windsor police are asking nearby residents and people who knew Cassandra Kaake to come forward and submit a DNA sample to eliminate suspects in the murder investigation.
Kaake, 31, was seven months pregnant when she was found dead following a fire at her home on Benjamin Ave. on Dec.11.
After the incident, police said the fire at the duplex was intentionally set and she died as a result of blood loss due to severe trauma to her body.
“This is a horrible tragedy,” says Sgt. Matt D’Asti. “A brutal murder of a woman who was with child, she was seven months pregnant."
Police won’t specify what kind of sample, but say they have DNA evidence from the scene that is now being tested.
Ten Windsor police detectives are going door-to-door again looking for more evidence in the investigation.
“Detectives are conducting a secondary canvass,” says D’Asti.
Police say it has been an emotional investigation for the detectives working on the case.
Kaake's Facebook page says she was born in LaSalle and attended Sandwich secondary school. Police say she was working at a local parts supply company.
