Point Pelee National Park is getting over $11 million from the federal government for several infrastructure projects.
The investment includes renewing the overnight visitor facilities, renewing the park’s popular Northwest Beach to increase dune habitat by five per cent and a conservation and restoration initiative to restoring the park’s savannah.
It is the largest federal infrastructure plan in the 104-year history of Parks Canada.
“The investments announced today will enable Parks Canada to take bold action to ensure Point Pelee is preserved while also creating and protecting jobs and opportunities in the region,” says Dave Van Kesteren, MP for Chatham-Kent-Essex.
The park, located about 50 kilometres southeast of Windsor, welcomes about 250,000 visitors every year.
