Windsor police are launching a program to give residents and visitors an opportunity to formally report aggressive drivers and problematic traffic issues.
The Road Watch Program is a City of Windsor community initiative.
The reports can include speeding, tailgating, unsafe lane changes, traffic lights, stop signs or any other behaviour that makes you feel unsafe.
Police say if you obtained a detailed vehicle description and a licence plate for a specific driving complaint you can call them to make a formal to pursue charges or you can complete a Road Watch report to bring it to the attention of the Windsor Police Service.
If you choose a road watch report and if deemed appropriate, a letter will be sent to the owner of a vehicle outlining the date, time and location of the incident.
The letter will also include important messages encouraging the owner to ensure all who drive their vehicles do so in a safe and responsible manner.
A traffic complaint is an ongoing reoccurring traffic issue involving a location in your neighbourhood.
Police say a traffic complaint should outline the location within Windsor, what the traffic issue is, how often it occurs, time of day, and any other observations.
Once a submission is received by the Windsor police, the information will be reviewed by the traffic enforcement unit for follow-up action. A submission regarding a general ongoing neighbourhood traffic issue may be investigated to determine if traffic enforcement is required.
If you see an impaired driver, street racing or other behaviour that poses an immediate risk to public safety, Police say call 911. If the incident resulted in a collision, call the police at 519-258-6111.
