Leamington is set to be the host of an inaugural cannabis conference on Tuesday.
The one-day event at the Roma Club will profile the present and future economic impact of the cannabis industry in Canada.
"This industry is going to birth entrepreneurs,” says Craig Wiggins, the managing director of TheCannalysts. “It's going to birth food companies around here. It's going to birth candy companies, the gel cap industry, tool and mold for the packaging, automation for the supply lines."
More than 200 industry leaders, including licenced producers, regulators and associated businesses of the cannabis industry will be attending the conference.
The keynote speaker is Aphria CEO Vic Neufeld, but there are other speakers from as far away as Colorado and Washington, D.C.
The conference is being held a day after Aphria announced an agreement with Rapid Dose Therapeutics to license, manufacture, distribute and sell oral thin strips for both medical and adult-use cannabis markets.
Recreational cannabis use became legal in Canada on Oct. 17.
