Detroit city council has submitted a counter-proposal on the sale of 301 properties needed for a new bridge.
Council had until Monday to get a counter-proposal in to Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder's office after rejecting the deal written by emergency manager Kevyn Orr. The latter deal would have seen 301 properties transferred to the Michigan Land Bank for $1.4 million.
Councillors and Delray residents say the original deal doesn't do enough to improve their community when a new Canadian owned bridge gets built.
As a result, council is asking that 50 per cent of the $1.4 million be spent on improving Delray. Councillors also want the community to be consulted when a builder for the bridge and plaza is chosen.
State representative Rashida Tlaib says a state appointed emergency loan board will now decide between this new proposal or the one originally offered by Orr.
